"I was student teaching at an elementary school my senior year of college and was new to Houston, Texas. I didn't know anything about ATPE until my mentor teacher asked me if I belonged to an organization yet. I knew I had been covered back in Nebraska, but the thought never had crossed my mind when I moved down to Texas. She gave me a flier and had me fill out the card and mentioned it was free for student teachers; this way I would be covered. Later on, when I was offered a job by Alief ISD, I was more than happy to join ATPE as a continued member!"
